Glenn Beck’s Plan to Sell Books for 100 Years

Tea party rally in Washington DC

Glenn Beck has the right to be a complete fucking moron. I don’t like it, but that’s his right.

Mr. Beck is styling himself as a political organizer. In an interview, he said he would promote voter registration drives and sponsor a series of seven conventions across the country featuring what he described as libertarian speakers. On Saturday he held a festive campaign-style rally in The Villages in Florida, north of Orlando, in which he promoted his recently released book, “Arguing With Idiots,” and announced another book to come next August filled with right-leaning policy proposals gathered from the conventions.

Snip

In describing the conventions, he told the crowd on Saturday: “You’re going to learn about finance. You’re going to learn about community organizing. You’re going to learn everything we need to know if you want to be a politician.”

Why do I imagine that Beck’s rallies will be much like those “success” seminars that employ some high-profile speakers interspersed with people trying to sell their books about “success” and snake-oil cures for cancer?

But Beck has a plan:

Today, I have stopped looking for a leader to show us the way out because I have come to realize that the only one who can truly save our country…is us. To change America’s course we need to change ourselves, our expectations and our willingness to accept the unacceptable. When we refuse to allow our children to receive a trophy for participation, we are on the road to restoring the meaning of merit in our Republic. When we insist that no one is too big to fail, we will be able to learn from our mistakes, and when we demand that we are self-reliant, we will ensure that others can rely on us, not the government.

Meh. Beck and his teabagging minions are always going to try to inflate the level of crisis in this country and their own self-worth. And that’s OK because that’s part of their job as irritating know-nothings with no sense of history.

But the worst thing is that Beck plans to hold a rally on August 28th at the Lincoln monument. The anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech. That would be OK, except for the fact that he seems to have chosen that date deliberately to help other tea-bagging conservative yell that they are angry about something.

Is Beck stoking white supremacist fires? Probably.

Is he a racist? Probably, but Beck likes to think he color-blind.

But he has a Plan.

They are going to march on Washington and rally against amorphous things they don’t like because they are mad about spending, gays, a black President. Or something. And Beck is their new MLK, standing up for the oppressed white majority in the US.

Pass the popcorn, please.
